Für den 13. November kündigt Universum die zweite Jean-Luc Godard Collection an. Enthalten sind Week-End und Maria und Joseph. Die erste Kollektion erscheint knapp zwei Wochen zuvor.

Ende September veröffentlicht Mondo Macabro die Bollywood Horror Collection Vol. 1, die als Double Feature die beiden Filme Bandh Darwaza und Purana Mandir von den Ramsey Brothers beinhaltet. projekt b - neues DVD-Label bringt frühe Cronenberg-Arbeiten

Auch nach angestrengtem Googlen habe ich zwar keine Website dazu gefunden. Aber jedenfalls gibt es, und dies offenbar in Hagen, einen neuen DVD-Anbieter namens projekt b, der immerhin David Cronenbergs früheste Frühfilme Stereo und Crimes of the Future nun in Deutschland veröffentlicht hat. Intro informiert weiter. Ich bin gespannt, was aus diesem Hause in Zukunft zu erwarten ist.

A joint project of Medienwerkstatt Wien and sixpackfilm

Similar to a small publishing house for quality literature, INDEX releases and distributes audiovisual publications relevant to the history of international and Austrian film, video and media art. For the label´s launch 15 DVDs with the works of mostly Austrian artists were published. Preparations for expanding the series to include international works have started, with the initial phase already seen thanks to Marina Gržinić and Aina Šmid.

Information about the film- and videomakers and their production methods as well as analyses of the works are provided in a bilingual (German/English) brochure. INDEX DVDs are available to schools for use in instruction and both university institutes and libraries.

Edition Filmmuseum

Unter dem Label Edition Filmmuseum bringt ein Zusammenschluss mehrerer europäischer Filminstitutionen Rares und selten Gesehenes aus den eigenen Archiven auf DVD heraus. Das Augenmerk liegt dabei einerseits auf Titeln aus der frühen und klassischen Zeit des Kinos, andererseits werden aber auch jüngere Produktionen berücksichtigt, beispielsweise Westend , der rare Fall einer gelungenen Offbeat-Indie-Komödie aus Deutschland.

Ein Label, das sich im Auge zu behalten lohnt.

CasaNegra - mexikanische Horrorfilme auf DVD

CasaNegra Entertainment ist eine Tochter des alleine schon durch seine Pinky Violence-Boxen (siehe hier und hier) international renommierten DVD-Labels Panik House. Während Panik House auf japanisches Kino abonniert ist, ist CasaNegra jedoch dem World Cinema gewidmet, mit einem Augenmerk vor allem auf klassische Horrorfilme.

Bislang sind die beiden Filme El Espejo de la Bruta und La Maldición de La Llorona erschienen, beides mexikanische Horrorfilme aus den frühen 60er Jahren, die, so twitchfilm.net im Review, ohne weiteres mit den US-Horrorklassikern der 30er zu vergleichen sind. Man darf wohl auch auf die angekündigten Titel schon sehr gespannt sein.

Second Run News - Filme von Miklós Jancsó und Juraj Herz

Die nächsten Titel des britischen DVD-Anbieters Second Run stehen fest: Am 27. März erscheint The Red and the White (Ungarn/UdSSR 1947) von Miklós Jancsó, am 10.April kommt The Cremator (CZ 1968) von Juraj Herz.

Die Infotexte des Labels:

Set in 1919, during the aftermath of the Russian Revolution, The Red and the White is a war film unlike any other. In the brutal civil war which raged across the country, many Hungarian volunteers joined the 'Red' Bolshevik forces, battling the 'White' counter-revolutionaries in a bitter struggle for power. Through its stylistic virtuosity, ritualistic power and sheer beauty, Jancsó asks us to study the mechanisms of conflict almost abstractly; clearly portraying the utter futility of war. Although the film was an Hungarian-Russian co-production, the Russian authorities banned Jancsó's version from being shown anywhere in the Soviet Union.

Juraj Herz's film The Cremator has been described in many ways - as surrealist-inspired horror, as expressionist fantasy, as a dark and disturbing tale of terror. Combining horror and humour, this brilliant film, set in Prague during the Nazi occupation, tells the story of Karel Kopfrkingl (Rudolf Hrusinsky), a professional cremator. For Kopfrkingl the political climate offers great possibilities for acting out his increasingly deranged impulses, and making his contribution towards the 'salvation of the world'. The film's impact is heightened by a completely wonderful Zdenek Liska music score.
